As Manager of Sponsored Programs at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center at the University of Miami, Melissa oversees a Research team and manages a portfolio of over 400 clinical trials. She is responsible for strategic planning and operations, facilitating large projects that span multiple disciplines, faculty, and institutional departments. She also supervises the post-award sponsored programs team, and the submission, preparation, implementation, and management of pharmaceutical Clinical Trial Studies.
Melissa is a goal-oriented leader with a strong understanding of public relations and the role of customer service in an organization. She has led a sucessful administrative restructuring of the Research team, and is an independent self-starter with a competitive drive for achievement.
She manages existing policies and procedures and implements new ones, ensuring that Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center’s is in compliance with the OMB uniform guidance and the CMS regulations and guidance requirements, keeping good administrative practices. She focuses on supporting stakeholders by providing accurate and timely financial reporting and liaison services.
Melissa began her carrier in Health Service Administration over 16 years ago at the University of Miami. Her previous experience includes working as a clinical trial coder and clinical trial coverage analyst at the largest public hospital in South Florida. She is a certified professional coder (CPC) by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) and holds a Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
